Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium is one of the most famous stadiums in the entire world.  The new stadium, built in 2009, hosts the New York Yankees, and more recently has hosted concerts by both Jay Z and Eminem.  The stadium is more famously known for their home team, the New York Yankees.  Notably New York Yankees include all time greats like Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantel to more recent athletes and managers like Joe Torre, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Andy Petite.

The new Yankees’ baseball stadium cost a whopping 1.5 billion dollars.  The state of the art baseball venue can seat as many as 52,325 people when at it’s maximum capacity.  This massive stadiums is one of the largest in all of major league baseball.  The baseball stadium’s center field is 408 feet deep (124 meters).  Considering their success both on the baseball field and financial the cost was justifiable.  Not only were the costs justifiable, but New Yorkers were in full support of building the new stadium.  The old Yankee Stadium still stands next door to the new and improved stadium.  The old Yankee Stadium serves as a museum and has even served as a venue for New York Universities 2008 graduates.

In November of 2010 the US Army will play an NCAA football game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  This is one of the most anticipated events of the year, bringing two major college football teams to New York City.  The new Yankee Stadium is not the only new stadium in the New York City area.  A few boroughs over in Queens, the New York Mets built Citi Field.  Also, in Brooklyn, the New Jersey Nets plan on building a new arena for NBA basketball games and indoor entertainment.

Yankee Stadium will always be known for the New York Yankees, and for their 27 major league baseball titles.
